Melbourne's population is growing at a rate of approximately 1000 people per week putting even greater demands on the current water supply. Poor rainfall (prolonged drought) has seen dam levels fall dramatically. In particular, new records (record low rainfall figures) have been established in 2008 for both September and October (traditionally our wettest months).
Put simply, Melbourne needs more water as restrictions alone will not resolve the problem.
